By Dan Rosecrans:
For years the Republican party has depended upon the votes of Christians to elect their candidates and carry their issues. Ronald Reagan relied on Believers to roar to office twice, but more importantly to move his political agenda forward.
Not any more. The Republicans would prefer to follow the Democrats down the slippery slope of moral relativism and debauchery. They govern like Democrats and detest Conservatives. So it was just a matter of time.
Now one national leader has taken the bold step of leaving the Republicans in the dust. Franklin Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse has announced he is now an Independent voter, no longer registered as a Republican.
In his statement, Graham said, “I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or tea party to do what is best for America. Unless more godly men and women get in this process and change this wicked system, our country is in for trouble,” Graham, 63, wrote on Facebook.
Graham called on “Christians, even pastors, across the country to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, country commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.”
Note that Franklin’s Father, Dr Billy Graham, avoided the partisan politics into which his Son now dives. The times we face as a Nation demand strong Spiritual Leadership and while the majority of Pastors in America have either sold their souls to political correctness or are afraid of offending their audience Graham is standing like steel.
When was the last time you heard your Pastor address the decay of our once great Nation? Has your Pastor ever covered a contemporary problem with Biblical insight? Most likely not. In a recent survey it was found that while 90% of Evangelical Pastors know the Bible address the problems America faces, only 10% will bring God’s Word to bear on the vital subjects of our day. That is deserting their post.
Pastors….speak up….speak out. Maybe it is high time more Believers, like Franklin Graham, like you and me, determined we will no longer be unequally yoked with the Republican Party!
