Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105

I have been on more than one play date where all the kids will sit in a dark closet and play with flashlights and giggle for hours, while the moms drink coffee and chat about the latest potty training techniques or organic recipe. Rough life, I know…

As I mentioned last week, my son occasionally feels the need to wake at 5:00am and wants to go downstairs and snuggle on the couch. He recently found the app on my phone for the flashlight and always asks to hold it as he navigates his way down the steps, hopefully not tripping on my husband’s pile of clothes from the night before. I always oblige and let him play navigator for the journey down.

While the bible is full of wonderful parallels and descriptive pictures, this one is so clear. The appearance of light bible-879070__180into darkness is such an amazing image for me. Not to mention, light is such a wonderful gift in a time of fear or anxiety – just flip the switch and all the boogie monsters disappear.

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness does not overcome it. John 1:5

Clearly, something cannot be light and dark at the same time. I absolutely want God’s word lighting my family’s path through many big decisions we will be making this coming year. I don’t want to slip down the steps on a dirty sock or undershirt simply because I wasn’t prepared with the light!
